Sen. McCain Diagnosed With Brain Cancer – And Republicans Attack Him With False Claims

Ordinarily, we rather enjoy it when Republicans attack other Republicans. That’s not the case in the latest example of in-party fighting by the GOP, though.

After recent news told of Sen. John McCain’s diagnosis of brain cancer, negative memes and links to questionable websites are circulating all over social media. They claim McCain was charged with treason for things he told the enemy while he was a prisoner-of-war during Vietnam. McCain was convicted of those charges and was sentenced to death, they say. He only got away with it because then-president Richard Nixon pardoned McCain, they claim. (See examples below.)

Those claims are completely, 100-percent, absolutely FALSE.

Dorchester Democrats respond to Rep. Murphy’s ‘Equal Pay’ delay (Press Release)

3/22/2017

On March 22, South Carolina began moving one step closer to joining 46 other states with “equal pay” laws, which prevent companies from paying women a lesser rate than men for the same work. Until Rep. Chris Murphy – a Republican state legislator representing House Dist. 98 in Summerville and North Charleston – slyly tripped that step, that is.

On Tuesday morning, H.R. 3599 (“South Carolina Equal Pay for Equal Work Act”) was heard by the House Judiciary subcommittee, which is chaired by Murphy.

When another member of the subcommittee called for vote on the bill, Murphy delayed, even moving discussion on to another bill, according to The Post & Courier’s Maya T. Prabhu, who reports the state representative from Dorchester County used a “series of procedural moves designed to put off voting” on the bill.

“We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”  -  Ben Franklin

As I am watching the horror show known as the Trump Administration, I wonder what can I do, what can we all do, as Democrats to fight back and to make sure that we will never be in this position again. I also shake my head as I listen to people who are still mired in the vitriol from this past election season. I’m not talking about Republicans, either; I’m talking about us, the Democrats and others on the left side of the political spectrum.

Some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters are pointing fingers at Bernie Sanders and his supporters in the party for her defeat when, in fact, she won the popular vote and most Berniecrats voted for her in the General Election. Berniecrats, conversely, are pointing fingers at the Hillary diehards for not treating Sanders and his followers with respect and thus turning off many young and first-time voters. There are plenty of hurt feelings to go around and much discussion about the multiple reasons for the loss of not only the presidency but of a record number of seats in Congress, state and local governments. The party is at its lowest point since the 1920s. Are we going to just stew in resentment and defeatism?

Tim Scott Puts Your Campaign Donations Into His Own Pockets

6/27/2016

Recent news reports have criticized Donald Trump for using tricks to pocket donations to his presidential campaign. He rents his own properties for campaign events, for example, paying his own company to cater them, and paying another Trump enterprise for his transportation to those events. In fact, so far he’s managed to toss $6.2 million back into his own wallet.

Before anyone can complain about Trump’s trick, though, they should check Tim Scott’s campaign records. The South Carolina Senator has been doing the same thing for years.

Blaine Lotz, chair of the Beaufort County Democratic Party, recently sent out an email offering evaluation, with both remembrance and future goals. Blaine gave DCDP permission to reprint.

Dear Fellow Democrats,

Wow! What an amazing past ten days this has been. It started last Thursday morning before 7:00, when I saw on my I-phone, just as I was taking Freckles out for his morning walk, that nine people had been killed in Charleston. Then as I returned to take out Grover, I told Lynne about the news. When Grover and I returned, Lynne had already received a call from fellow Sun City friend and Democrat Bob Dixon that our mutual friend Rev. and Democratic State Senator Clementa Pinckney was one of those nine people killed during Bible study at his Emanuel AME Church. We have still not been able to fully comprehend the massacre, the lives cut short and lost, the twisted and racist mind of the alleged killer, or the incredible and unbelievable forgiveness by word and heart of the families of the victims.

President Obama's eulogy at state Sen. Pinckney's Funeral

6/28/2015

Nothing can take away the sorrow - the injustice - the inhumanity - of the recent mass murder of nine in our community, including Democratic state senator and reverend Clementa Pinckney.

The beauty that followed this tragedy, however - the peace and unity and justice-serving humanity - has been priceless. Rewarding. And rebuilding of faith and spirit and unison. Not just here in South Carolina, but around the world.

Our president captured that best in his eulogy at Rev. Pinckney's funeral (which was his second visit to our state this year, too) in what we're sure will be recorded as a historic moment in our nation's history.

Let's remember this spirited address - and let's never forget the Charleston 9:

The 4th Annual SCDP John Spratt Issues Conference, held in Myrtle Beach on February 27 and 28, was a huge success! Over 250 fellow Democrats from all over the state attended and enjoyed many sessions on a variety of topics, Town Hall style meetings with interactive dialogue, and inspiring speeches by former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. There was good representation from Dorchester County with six attending this year’s conference.
